The Act of Painting is an international collective of abstract painters that is organizing exhibits worldwide. Local artists and art theorists are invited to join the initiative in each city the group takes on. The goal of the collective is to permeate the core of contemporary abstract painting. What is the relationship between the work being produced by the collective and Abstract Expressionism of the 1950's or the wild painting of the 1980's? And how will the collective take these movements/tendencies a step further? What influence do the new technological and scientific developments have on conciousness and how does that modernized conciousness influence the making of a painting? The project aims to articulate a nuanced definition of the meaning of painting in this moment in time.
